What is 21st Century Learning…

About 6 years ago, I was asked to teach a class about technology… without any kind of lesson plan, curriculum, book, ideas ….

So….. what does 21st century learning mean??… After reading lots of articles, and brainstorming from my own lessons, and of course, talking with my fellow teachers… I started making a list of what I felt was important for my kids to know.

  • What is going to help them be a better student?
  • What would my kids carry on into high school and college?
  • What would make my student’s useful members of society?
  • What are specific traits I want to see?
    • Creativity
    • Willing to share their knowledge with others
    • Willing to take risks during a challenge
  • What will jobs look like?
    • Working within cloud-based platforms
    • Computer literate
    • Self-motivated and highly-productive
    • Research and fact-check information
    • Be able to suitably and appropriately communicate with a variety of people in a variety of situations
    • Be able to understand and be empathetic to others opinions, ideas, and issues
    • Be empathetic and understanding during team work, committees, and planning groups
    • Be a life-long learner
